Poem: Message in a Bottle

Message in a Bottle

I put these things quietly
into the world –
social media likes,
encouragement, support,
book reviews, poems –
my handwriting scrawled across
lined sheets, placed carefully
into bottles,
tossed into the sea.
I never know if anyone
knows of these things I do.
If they’ll notice.
If they’ll care.

But like everyone who’s thrown
words into an ocean of bodies,
I hope someone notices,
that somehow it matters.

A poem that mirrors every writer’s concerns! Let’s have faith that our thoughts will reach and inspire someone, somewhen. 🙂

Absolutely, Gary! When we write, we fill a void in the world. We can fill it with light or darkness. I hope I fill it with light. Even when I write about the darkest things, I’m still crying out, “There’s hope and healing. Don’t give up.” And light is always visible in the darkness. So I think our words will reach someone, somewhere, when they are needed most.

  2. May your bottle wash into the right hands. The ones who need desperately to hear your message.
Wishing you a great New Year.
