Guest Poem: Sun Drenched

A poem about grief and healing

Sun Drenched

Bluebird summer days afford you moments to warm.
The power and the peace soak into your skin
and you let your guard down
but only with the knowledge that you had hidden yourself well.
Behind high walled fences you were free to bask and glow,
radiating love for your position in this world,
as it is right now.

In this moment you are well.
You are loved.
You are on the edge of greatness.
You are confident.

There are no eyes here
and you are drunken,
giddy with release.
These are rare moments.

Your sun love is not superficial
and you don’t sit for long moments like this for vanity.
You spend these long quiet moments mending yourself from the inside.
ou always have a joke but right now you need this silence.
This is not a time for quiet reflection but rather, you let your mind wander
and for those long but sparse moments you are weightless.
For those long but sparse moments you are not in treatment.
You are free from disease
and for those long sparse moments you might live forever.

I carry those moments and take a few of my own.
To let the warmth of the sun soak into my face as I look upward and remember
and feel  gratitude for the endless blessings this life afforded me in being witness to your life.

I forgot that Poetry Month is over and I didn’t even thank you properly for featuring wonderful poems and poets throughout April. So, thank you, Mandie. It was a real pleasure visiting your blog every day and taking away something.

Aww, thank you. I had an extra guest poem, so I thought I’d share it today. I also had more guest poems last month than I anticipated, so I have several of my own poems left over that I’ll eventually share. I made a list yesterday, and I have about 10 poems that I would like to submit to literary journals for publication, but I have at least that many more that I thought I’d share on here.
I’ve shifted gears a bit too, so while I didn’t intend to make everyone go cold turkey with the sudden drop off of poetry, I’ve found myself wrapped up in editing my horror novel, so that’s exactly what I ended up doing. Sometimes you just have to go with where your creativity is leading you though.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment on all the poems. It made it a fun project.

Whoa! You’re a writing machine! All the best with your submissions and I agree with what you said about creativity.

        It definitely was fun! 😄
