Duotrope adds Literary Agents

Duotrope, an online database of markets for poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and visual arts, adds literary agents to database.

I’m behind on submitting pieces to literary magazines, so it’s been a while since I’ve been on Duotrope, but when I logged on, I was excited to see they’ve started beta testing a new category: literary agents.

For those who aren’t familiar with Duotrope, it’s an online database of markets for poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and visual arts with listings for over 6,000 markets, and now it has literary agents. Duotrope is one of my favorite tools for submitting pieces. If you’d like to know more about it, I wrote a post about it that you can read here.

Since starting the beta testing on Feb. 14, 2018, they have more than tripled the number of listed agents with just under 400 agents as of the writing of this post.

According to Duotrope’s website, this summer they’ll be adding interviews with agents, which if you’ve had a chance to read any of the interviews with the editors of different literary magazines that are featured on the site, they can be very helpful in gaining a little more insight into what they are looking for.

Here are a few of the fields that can be used in your search for an agent:

  • Country (e.g., Canada, Ireland, United Kingdom, United States)
  • Genre
    • Subgenre
  • Length (e.g., novella, story collection, novel)

I really should get paid for promoting Duotrope, but in all honesty, it’s one of my favorite places to easily sort through literary magazines and I’m happy to see they’ve added literary agents. It’ll take a little while for them to gather statistics on response times, but this is an invaluable addition to the site and I look forward to using it.
